Christmas with Caitlyn: 2 Holiday Hairstyles

Hi my cuties,

Welcome to the second holiday special and today I’ll be doing another hair tutorial. I picked two unique hairstyles, both can be worn to dressier events and the one you can turn into a more casual updo. May I add both are very easy. So lets get started:

Knoted Braid Updo

1.) Brush your hair really well, you don’t want any knots.

(Excuse some of my pictures, I’m a little bit awkward infront of a camera,  but I’m hoping that it will eventually go away.)

2.) Make a side parting.
image

3.) Take a triangle of hair from the back of your head and clip it away.
image

4.) Now grab two pieces from the front, these you’ll use for the braid.
image

5.) Take the bottom piece cross it over the top one and then through the loop, as if you’re making a knot. Then pull. The bottom piece now becomes the top one and the top one becomes the bottom one. This is really important. Without this the braid won’t work.

6.) Continue and the secure the braid with a thin elastic band.

7.) Pull the braid to the back and pin it into place. If you want you can remove the elastic band now. Place the hair ,that we pinned away at the beginning, over the pins so that they’re hidden.

8.) Now it gets hard. Part your remaining hair into three same sized sections. Start with the middle on. Grab it with your one hand and twist it upward, so that your hair is looped around your hand. Then pin it, but leave a tiny bit of hair hanging out at the bottom. Repeat this with all three sections.

9.) Take the bits of hair that you left hanging at the bottom and criss-cross them over the pinned up hair. You can do this in a messy or a groomed fashion.

Voilà,  thats your updo. Now if you want a more casual hair style, instead of pinning the braid to the back of your head, you grab all your hair with the braid to a messy ponytail. This is personnaly my favorite way to wear it.

Braided updo

1.) Brush your hair to the back and take the top layer of your hair. Start french braiding (see my post ‘Braids 101’ for an explanation) your hair and the go over in a normal braid.
image

2.) If you grab underneath your braid with your two thumbs you’ll feel a tiny space there. Try widening it eith your thumbs.
image

3.) As soon as you think the space is wide enough,  take your braid and start rolling it inward. Then eventually tuck the rolled up braid into the hole we created before.

4.) Now pin the braid into place.

And there you go. A formal updo that can be done in 5 Minutes.

And thats the post for today guys, I hope you enjoyed my little extra post. I am a christmas person and even though Advent kinda just started I’ve been having so much fun.

Now I have a challenge for you. If you decide to do one of the hair styles I showed today, please send me the pic via my email: fashion4forfun@gmail.com and I’ll be choosing the 3 best pictures to be featured on my blog on the 25th of December.  So don’t be shy!

Now on a more serious note. A lot of you probabley know that Nelson Mandela past away and this makes me really sad, since I’ve always loved him because I love South Africa. It has always been my home. So here I just want to pay my respects to him, we lost a great man and an amazing leader. So thank you Mandela for everything that you did for South Africa and for the world. You’ll be sorely missed.
